In January, 2016 Izzi Hughes was selected as WHKP Hometown Hero, nominated by Dr. David Richards.
Izzi Hughes is a young budding music star. She goes to school with Dr. Richards’ son Benjamin who has Down Syndrome and is also severely autistic. Ben fell in love with Izzi’s music and played it constantly on his iPhone, never knowing that the musician he loved was one of his Hendersonville Middle School classmates! When Dr. Richards told Izzi of Ben’s appreciation of her music, she wanted to give him a personal concert at the office. What a special day that was. Ben was thrilled and beamed ear to ear as Izzi played to him for about 2 hours. We admired her heart and were so happy that WHKP showed her some recognition.
